US Energy History VisualizationCurriculum
This new resource from the University of Chicago that shows 200 years of evolving energy use in America as an animated Sankey diagram. You have likely seen one or more of the annual Sankey diagrams (aka “flow charts”) of the US energy system that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) releases each year (Click here to visit the LLNL website and note that there are also Sankey diagrams for each state).
Note that underneath the Sankey visualization is a graph depicting energy use by fuel source or by sector over this 200 year period.
The Insights page describes major observations, findings, and insights to be gained by understanding how the U.S. energy system has grown and changed over time.
