With a generous grant from Metro, the Eco-School Network is thrilled to launch the Eco-School Waste Fellowship to help nearly 10,000 students develop lifelong waste reduction habits. Parent leaders from 20+ schools across our four districts have been accepted as fellows. With the guidance of a mentor, each fellow will launch a new school waste initiative, tackling waste from food, disposable cafeteria products, school events, and school supplies. Portland parent leader and SAGE Fellow, Jenny Dempsey Stein, will design a research project to evaluate if and how students’ values and behaviors change over time. This grant will allow us to measure the impact of parent-led school waste projects on the waste stream and the long-term impact on student habits. Thank you, Metro!
